Overview

The Frye Art Museum is a premier art museum located in downtown Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood. It houses a collection focused on European and American art from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

The museum was established in 1952 when Dr. Charles and Emma Frye donated their personal collection of over 400 paintings and sculptures. It has grown to include over 5,000 objects.

The collection strives to exemplify the Aesthetic Period in Europe and America through works depicting popular themes of the era such as pastoral settings, portraits, and nudes. Key movements featured are Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Arts and Crafts.

Temporary exhibitions are curated to highlight important themes and diverse artists. Museum visitation has increased due to an expanded facility and new programming for all ages.

In addition to the indoor galleries, the Frye features a sculpture garden with rotating installations set amongst terraced lawns and trees. Guided tours, lectures, and concerts enhance the experience.

With its intimate atmosphere and high-caliber collection, the Frye Art Museum aims to immerse visitors in artistic beauty while sparking new perspectives on turn-of-the-century art movements.
